The UNESCO National Commission of Timor-Leste nominated Virginia da Graça da Cruz as Timor-Leste representative to the 9th UNESCO Youth Forum, which took place at UNESCO Headquarters, in Paris, France, from 26 to 28 October 2015.  After observing Virginia facilitation skills and energy, the UNESCO team in Paris selected her as representative of the Asian youth to the UNESCO 38th General Conference, from 3 to 18 of November, with the mission of sharing the recommendations produced during the 9th UNESCO Youth Forum.

During her time in Paris, Virginia had the opportunity to receive UNESCO training on facilitation techniques and to interact with people from all over the world (press here to see an interview with Virginia).

About the UNESCO Youth Forum

“The UNESCO Youth Forum was created in 1999 to provide young people with the opportunity to present their concerns and ideas to Member States and help shape the direction of UNESCO.

Every two years, young people from 195 Member States come together at the UNESCO headquarters in Paris to discuss and debate thematic areas of concern.

The forum culminates in a series of recommended actions to be presented at the UNESCO General Conference. These actions will take into account the lived experiences and unique perspective of youth as well as the challenges facing young people today.

The 9th UNESCO Youth Forum main theme is Young Global Citizens for a Sustainable Planet.”
